Kyle Cassidy inspires the New Year's 2012 Challenge

THIS CHALLENGE IS NOW CLOSED. Many thanks to all who participated! Your humble project manager believes this is the highest amount of participation the Night Garden has had to date for a particular challenge. Most exciting was that we had several first-time contributors.

Great Lakes Bengal Rescue has informed the Night Garden that no contributions were made to them related to this challenge. Your humble project manager is new to said managing, and is contemplating that perhaps this aspect of the project was not encouraged properly.

Yet said manager is very pleased with the new pieces contributed and continues to believe that art for art's sake has value of its own. So, thanks again, to Kyle for sharing his image as inspiration, thanks to the folks who created something in response to Kyle's photograph, and thanks to everyone stopping by to read.

For this challenge, we invite you to respond to Kyle’s photograph.

He shares it sans title, sans explanation, sans comfort.

THE RULES: The name of the game is collaborative conversation. We seek creative responses inspired by the piece, not derivative works. Only original artwork will be accepted. Any genre, medium, or form is fine, but it must be all your own work. No part, portion, or sample of Kyle's photograph may be used in your submitted piece; derivative works will be considered ineligible for submission.

WHERE TO SUBMIT: thenightgarden.net@gmail.com

WHAT TO SEND IN: Web links or files. Submitted pieces must be in a digital format, regardless of your chosen medium. Submit visual and craft art pieces in .jpg or .gif format only. Individual file sizes should not exceed 800kB.

Acceptable file formats for written submissions include .txt, .rtf, .odt, .doc, or may be pasted directly into the body of your email. Entries will appear in the gallery as they're received.

Please include with your submission your full name, a short bio of four lines or less, and a brief artist's note explaining how your piece came to be, how you think it speaks to Kyle's photograph, and how the photo speaks back to it. For visual and craft art submissions, please also include a short description of the materials used to create the work.

THE DEADLINE: Entries will be accepted beginning December 4, 2011, through January 31, 2012.

THE GIVEAWAY: Join us in our ongoing campaign to support Great Lakes Bengal Rescue! Kyle will give away a 9"-x-12" unsigned print of the above photo to one donor to be chosen at random.
